Session 1 of the Regional Sessions in the National Students’ Parliament was held at Members’ Lounge, Kerala Legislative Assembly. The session was on the topic ‘Secularism and Nationalism’. Member of Parliament Binoy Viswam and former Minister from Haryana Swami Agnivesh were the main speakers.
Binoy Viswam talked about the role of secularism in democratic India. He said that secularism is one of the primary pillars of our Constitution. Many great people sacrificed their life to attain freedom in all means for our country, he added.
Swami Agnivesh said that the understanding of secularism gave him clarity about the various issues related to religion and it also helped him to solve many of them. He also elaborated on the importance to nurture scientific temper rather than religious one in all matters.
Dr. Achuthshankar S. Nair was the co-ordinator of the session.
